5 Simple Steps for Reinventing Your Style.

Updated: Apr 25

My beautiful style tribe, if you've ever found yourself in a style rut where you're not quite happy with your style but just don't know where to start in changing it, this post is for you.

Today I have rounded up five simple steps that I believe can help take you right out of that style funk and into a place where you feel confident and happy about the way you look.

1. Establish your style goal(s).

When it comes to updating or reinventing your style, your first step should be establishing your style goal (s). To do this, take some time to reflect and ask yourself some questions. Why do you feel you need the change? What is it about your style you want to change? Are there any aspects of your current look that you would like to maintain? The answers to these questions will help you to create a clearer picture of the direction you want to take your style and make your reinvention that much easier.

2. Find some inspiration.

Once you've taken some time to establish your style goal(s), it's now time to find some inspiration for your updated look. One easy way to find inspiration for your refreshed style is to do some good old people watching. Take some time during your daily commute to observe persons and identify styles that you would like to incorporate into your own. Another great way for finding inspiration for your own style, is by spending some time looking at the fashion choices of a famous style icon whose style you admire.

3. Create a mood board.

You have now established your style goals and found some inspiration. The next step is to create a visual representation of the changes you want to make to your style. To do this create a style mood board. This style mood board should be filled with images of styles that you like and would like to integrate into your own. The mood board should have a theme based on whatever your main style goal (s) are. Creating the mood board can be done digitally (like the one shown below) by using websites such as Canva and Adobe Spark or physically using a scrap book page and cutouts from various fashion magazines.

4. Take action.

Once you have established your style goals and found inspiration for the changes in your look that you want to make, it's time to take action. However, when taking this step, the most important thing to remember is to take it slow (this is not the time for a shopping spree)! Updating your style is not an overnight task. Ease yourself into it by making small changes. These can include changing up the colour palettes that you wear, or by adding different shoes and accessories to your wardrobe.

5. Play around with different looks.

If you want to be successful at reinventing your style, you have to step away from your comfort zone, even if it's just a little. Try out different looks and have fun with it. For example if your casual wardrobe usually features t-shirts and jeans, try integrating a dress or skirt look (that you like) into the rotation.

And that rounds up my steps. The key thing to remember is that reinventing your style does not have to be a daunting task. Give yourself time with the process and stay true to you, because the most important aspect of your personal style is that it reflects who you are.

Let me know what you think of the steps I've outlined above. Are there any others that you have tried? Let me know in the comments below. I look forward to your feedback as always :)

Till then. Stay stylish my friends.
